OLYMPIA

My name is Mr. Spencer, and I will be the new OHMS band director beginning Fall 2022! I will be graduating this May from Illinois State University with a bachelor's degree in Music Education with an emphasis on instrumental music.

I am from LeRoy, Illinois where I was involved in all areas of the music department: band, choir, madrigals, musicals, and plays. Beyond music I have also been involved in athletics and student leadership. Coming from a school similar in size to Olympia, I know the school’s success is contingent upon student involvement. I am a huge advocate of student body and civic engagement and believe the band can play a huge role in the morale and culture of the school. I will always encourage students to be involved in other aspects of the school!

I am beyond excited to begin working with you and your children! Together, we can return the band program to greatness! I am a very enthusiastic and passionate teacher and musician. My vision for the program is to work on fundamentals of being great musicians, so all participating members can be confident in putting on a performance for the school and community. Ultimately, my goal is to help my students foster love and joy for making music in and out of the classroom. I want your children to have fun, and I will work to create a positive, accepting culture in my classroom. My classroom will value collaboration, educational excellence, real-world problem solving, and a true passion for making music. As a new director, I will work diligently to honor school and community traditions while bringing new, exciting ideas to families, students, and the community.
